Help I need a lock!
Hello there. Sorry that the 82-086 has not worked for you. What, exactly, did not work? Can it not interface with the door correctly? If so, inspect the thumb lever on the inside pull. Is it perfectly centered between the mounting holes? If so, the 82-086 won't work because the thumb lever is positioned towards the lower mounting hole. You'd need the 82-030A Handle Set instead, which has the centered configuration.
Let me know if that makes sense. If you're having a different issue, please specify what it is and I'd be happy to help further.
It's possible the tailpiece of the thumb lever and the spindle from the key lock are grinding against one another because the spindle of the key lock needs to be cut a little. The guide below explains. Let me know if this helps.
No. If the thumb lever and key lock aligned with the holes in the door, then the 82-086 was correct and you don't want to go with a handle set with a centered design like the 82-030. Please note that the tailpiece on the thumb lever is not really meant to be cut. The key lock spindle is the one that's meant to be cut down to the right size, as that guide I posted earlier shows. You want to cut the spindle of the key lock so it's not still so long that it jams up with the thumb lever tailpiece, but also don't cut off so much that it's too short and can't interact with the mortise lock.
Let me know if this makes sense. Assuming you think this is the cause of the original problem and cutting the spindle of the key lock correctly will solve things, you will need a new thumb lever and tailpiece for the front of the handle set. See the 82-107.
