Help with emco door spline

A handy person from Stephenson, VA says:
I just received my order of 55-109 for an almost 30 year old emco door. I cannot get the spline to seat properly. I thought it could be the no see um screen I was using. It is .013 in diameter. But before buying new screen, I thought to try using the original screen. No go. It's like the spline is a hair too big. The original spline was awful to remove. Any suggestions? Thanks!

It does take practice to roll in the Emco screen spline. They don't make it easy for you, that's for sure. I know you can't use aluminum screen wire, but I'm honestly not sure if No-See-Um wire will work. I can only tell you that the 55-109 is specifically designed for regular gauge screen mesh. There's no trick to it, unfortunately. The way we show it in our video is the only method. It just takes patience and a steady hand.

I agree with what Paul said. Removing the old spline is near impossible and cannot be reused. That's why the 55-109 is nice, but it can be tricky. We always use a standard type screen cloth, which is also what we show in our related videos. I think the no-seeum screen you're using has extra material to keep the bugs out, which would make a little thicker than the standard screen cloth. That's probably your problem, in my opinion.
