How do I install this?

Do you have a guide to install this?  The straight lock mechanism is too long...do I have to cut it shorter to fit inside the opening?

Yes, if your door is thinner than you will have to cut or break off the tail end of the key cylinder. My suggestion is to cut one off at a time so you do not cut it too short. Try the lock then cut off more if you have to.
