How to install the 83-040?
Especially how to connect the black butterfly part with the long metal stick? Seems no screw is designed to connect the two.

Hello! The 83-040 just screws to the door, yes. It also uses a pop rivet to connect the hook to the interior side latch.

This kit comes with both screws and pop rivet, but a pop rivet gun is sold separately under our 75-012S.

How can I attach the long silver latch to the smaller black piece with the up and down lock?

Is there a short flatend drive screw that would keep the latch secure within the lock?

The last silver latch fell out of this "latch and pull" screen door mechanism.

The hole in the latch and the hole in the black plastic lock align, but neither the silver latch nor the black up-down lock have any threads that I can see.

Thanks for reaching out to us. As mentioned above, the 83-040 latch is attached via the pop rivet. This requires using a rivet tool like our 75-012S. This is unfortunately not a part you can just put in the door with a screwdriver, unfortunately. A rivet tool of some kind is necessary.
