How to remove 82-247 from door

Question

This looks like the part I need!  How do I get the old one out!  it is not fully exposed & recessed inside door? Would I have to cut out wood on both ends to remove screws, insall lock then replace removed wood?

Hello,

To replace the 82-247, you'll need to remove both the handle and lock housing cover. The cover is attached to the panel stile with several screws, which are each driven below flush to avert interference with the lock housing cover. Each of these screws must be removed in order to free the housing from the lock stile.

Once they're off, the screws for the mortise should then be exposed. Simply remove the four screws holding the assembly in place, and it should come right out.
