How to remove a window sash.

Quick Learner

Hey friends, I recently ordered a set of channel balances to replace a set on a window with a broken balance. The replacement balances are fantastic and make the window slide with ease! Because we had such a great experience with our replacement balances, we want to swap the balances in the rest of the windows to make them glide with the same smoothness as the window we repaired. Of course before doing so we want to validate the size of the balances of each window. Unfortunately, I'm having a very hard time removing some of the window sashes from the jamb on quite a few of my single sash vinyl side load windows. If I bring the window to the top height I'm not able to slide the window out as it appears the jamb is pinching in places. Do y'all have an idea on how I can get the sash out when then jamb is slightly too small

How to remove and install a non-tilt channel balance-unfortunately, the issue is the sash binds with the window frame when it is being removed. So basically I can push the sash over to each of the sides in the frame, but there isn't enough room to remove the sash from the frame. Below is a photo of one of the windows that has this issue along with some notes indicating the issue

Hello,

It looks like the window was installed too tight in the opening and the installer didn't give any play for sash removal. It looks like you have some play on the bottom right side of the sash. Try bringing the sash down a few inches just above the balance shoe. Then use a putty knife and wedge it between the sash and window frame to see if you can work the sash out. Also, see the guides related on this page to assist you.
