How to remove door handle?

Home Owner from Dublin CA
I have a patio sliding door that is stuck in the closed position. The latch lever is in the locked position and cannot be moved. I am trying to remove the door handle. Are the attachment screws under the two squares (I assume they are plugs) on the handle? There are no other visible exposed screws.

Also, how are the two square plugs removed? I tried prying with a small standard screwdriver but had no luck.

Thanks in advance!

Your handle looks similar to the 82-080 which has the mounting holes on the side of the handle. Those square plugs could be the way to access the screws. Try using a small flat blade screw driver, maybe that will help you to remove them.

How do you get to the screws underneath the squares?

Those "squares" might just be plugs to cover up the screw heads. Try prying them off using a small flat-blade screwdriver.

There's no way to pry them off

Prying them up is how they're designed to work. There's no other way, unfortunately, so if you aren't able to do that then you won't be able to replace the handle. It just takes patience and the right tool. A flathead screwdriver works for me, but really anything stiff and narrow.
