Hello, It's always best to see a channel balance removed from the window to confirm the series but your balance looks like the S765 channel balance. I would recommend checking the balance on the opposite side of the window since the strength code in your photo is too faded to make out. Removing the sash can be tricky but you'll need to raise the sash a few inches above the sill, tilt the sash toward you and lift one side to create enough leverage to pop the pivot bars out of the pivot shoe one at a time. To remove an S765 balance, you'll need to stick a flat-head screwdriver in the pivot shoe's cam and turn it, which will unlock it. Then gently slide it up to the balance, careful not to let it shoot up, and disconnect the hook from the shoe. Finally, simply unscrew the top of the balance and take it out. You may want to use needlenose pliers when installing the new balance since there is no way to secure a charging tool to the terminal clip as we demonstrate in our video, The rest of the process is explained in our tilt window balance removal video below. Thank you! |

There are pivot shoes like the one shown below that have an enclosed cam, which makes it harder to disengage the pivot bar. That is why it is important to angle the sash as you tilt it inward to get the leverage needed to pop the pivot bar out of the enclosed cam. |
