How to replace 39-538 safely?

A home owner from Florida says:
These look like the right clips for my windows, but I've never tried a repair like this. How can I safely remove the old fasteners, and what's the best replacement fastener when installing the new clips?

Thank you for posting! The first thing you should do is remove the venting window sashes. These nylon parts should then be screwed into the side of the main frame of the window. The elongated holes in the 39-538 are for the shoulder rivets in the side arms on the window. The 39-538 is made of nylon and should have enough flex so that you can install the arm shoulder rivets into it.

Take note this should not be done in cold weather, as you want the nylon to be on the soft side.
