How wide to make kerf in new jamb for 58-008?

Hi Dave,

I just purchased 58-008 and I've had to replace the door jamb for which the kerf gets inserted into. How wide should I make the kerf in the new jamb?

Hey, Mike. I believe the width of the kerf for the 58-008 should be just under 1/8", maybe 3/32" wide. For the depth, I would make it 7/16" or 1/2" deep, seeing as how the length on the weather strip is 3/8" long. Try it on a scrap piece of wood trim first. You might also want to look into the nail-on type, 58-169. You could mount that under the door stop with out having to install a kerf.
