I need a new locking mechanism.

Our locking mechanism fell out of our sliding glass door into the door itself. We can not find the matching part for this lock.

This mortise lock is most likely the 82-218. Take a look and see if its dimensions match what you need.

how do you get the lock out if it falls in. I see it down there about 5 - 6 inches.

If the mortise lock has fallen into the door, then there is unfortunately not much you can do about it. In most cases it's going to be stuck in there permanently. The door frame is sealed when it's made and is not meant to be taken apart.

I've heard stories from people who have taken the door out and tilted it over to access the mortise, but that is obviously easier said than done and not a guarantee.
