I will need 4 channel balances

Handy Person from Salome, AZ
I believe what I have are the Series 385 Channel Balances. My windows weigh 15.2 lbs, the metal portion of the channel piece is 26" long. The channel is 1/2" (actually 9/16"). I can provide more pictures if needed. The only item that I'm not sure of, is in measuring the bottom piece. The fatest dimension is definitely more than 1" (so that means NOT the series 380), so 1-3/16" is much closer (assuming that is the measurement in question). One of my pictures shows the only writing on the part. (in my view, it is the last picture).

If you could let me know if you need any more pictures to ensure we are ordering the right items, that would be great. Also, if you could provide a price quote and an idea as to how long it will be from order placement, to when I should expect the items to be delivered (ball park...x days, x weeks, x months (hope that won't be the case, but it is what it is).

Hope y'all had a wonderful and "filling" Thanksgiving!

Hello,

It's tough to tell based on your last photo but as long as the top and bottom fittings have wings and the bottom fitting measures 1-3/32" as shown below, then the S385-26 would be the way to go.

The 2540 stamp on your metal channel would support a window sash between 19-25 pounds. If you're sure that your sash only weighs 15 pounds, then you would need a 2530 option to support between 15-19 pounds.

Pricing can be viewed directly on our product page and you will be given multiple shipping options to choose from at checkout, including expedited FedEx delivery.

Since I will be replacing balances on one side that mate up with good balances on the other side, would it not make sense that both sides be the same? So, if the existing good balance on one side of the window is for a 19-25 lb window, would it not make sense to get the new one in the same size/configuration? What would happen if the balance on one side is for a 19-25 lb window and on the other side for a 15-19 lb window?

I put a micrometer on the bottom wing and it measures slightly less than 1-3/32" across the dimension you indicated, but just barely. Perhaps there is some wear?? But regardless, it is definitely much more than 1".

Once I get an answer to the question about how important it is to balance both sides of the window with the same strength balances, versus buying solely based on the weight of the window part (which weighs according to my scale, out at 15.2lbs, I will place my order.

Thanks for your assistance. Would it be easier if I call to discuss this rather than by email?

We strongly recommend replacing both balances at the same time. They will both need to have the same strength option, as well as support the exact weight of the window sash. If the sash is 15 pounds and the balances are rated for a higher weight range, the window will not function properly and may not close all the way.

It is also possible that the bottom fitting could wear down a bit over time, so it is entirely possible that the dimension matches the S385 when they were originally installed.
