Identify Channel Balance

Home Owner from New Mexico

Dear Swisco,

I have a channel balance in need of replacement, and was recommended to your website. I believe that I need Series 385, based on attempts to match up the top and bottom pieces. Can you confirm that this is the correct part?

The metal piece is 27" long.

But here's the thing, the original has a marking of "26 4 00 CALDWELL", which I believe to mean it would match up with your 2640 strength spring. I weighed the window, and it weighs 16 pounds, which would put it in the 2630 category. Do you think I could go with the lighter strength spring? Would it make the window easier to open and close?

Thank you,

M

Thanks for posting. I agree, this looks like an S385-27 to me. The S380-27 is also a possibility, the only difference being the 'depth' of the bottom nylon shoe. I'm leaning towards the Series 385, but compare both with your old balance just to be safe.

Good eye on this issue with the stamp option. You are correct that the stamp code 26 4 conforms to our 2640 stamp option. You always want your window sash's weight to fall precisely within the weight range of the stamp option you select. Did you ever have trouble keeping your window closed before this? Did it ever slide open on you? These are common issues if a balance's spring calibration is too strong for the window. In any event, if your window weighs 16 lbs, go with the 2630 this time.
