Hello,

As long as your coil spring matches the specifications of our 1/2" wide Series 160, then you can use the 15-228 pivot shoe. Take a look and thanks for posting.

A quick learner from New Hampshire, USA says:
There is no direct connection made between the pivot shoe and a coil spring in the current window set up the shoe has no external connection except friction with the channel it sits in. There are three stationary plastic blocks that sit in the channel also (see picture). I don't know what their function is. Since there is not separate coil spring attached to the shoe in the window, is the 15-228 still the recommended shoe replacement or is there one with its own braking mechanism with the channel sides?

The coil springs need to connect to the pivot shoe in some way, otherwise, there would be no tension to support the weight of your window. Most likely, your coils have broken and are no longer connected the way they once were. The S160 coil would connect to the 15-228 by inserting the T-end of the coil sideways into the opening at the top corner of the shoe and then rotating it into position. Also, the plastic pieces shown in your photo are the covers for the coil springs.
