home built in 1975, Ive tried several handles without success.

Hm... looks like you have an old Marshal patio handle, which I believe is no longer available. I suggest using the 82-020 handle and drilling new holes to mount the handle. Compare measurements between your part and the part on our site, and let me know if that seems like something you can manage.
