If Sash Cord Is Broken Why Does the Whole Balance Need To Be Replaced?

We have several Andersen Windows in our house with broken sash cords and in one case just a broken cord plug. Otherwise most of the balances seem to be fine.

We should be able to help, but you won't be able to just replace the cord. The entire balance needs to be replaced. In order to determine what will work for you, we need to see a picture of the stamps printed on the balance box itself. See the video below for more information.

This kind of hardware is very precisely configured, due to its nature. Each balance box has a specific spring rating calibrated to the weight of your window sash. The cord is part of this system, and is not meant to be replaced. It's not something you can just swap in and out.
