In Need of New Channel Balances

Home Owner from Fernley, NV
As seems common, my channel balance string broke. I'd like to replace the balance and have a couple of spares on hand too. The number on my balance is "26 3 DX CMC 7". There are no other markings on it. The metal channel measures exactly 27 inches in length.

Thanks for posting. This looks like either the S380-27 or S385-27 Channel Balance. The only difference between these two balances is the depth of the bottom nylon shoe, or the 'heel-to-toe' measurement. See the diagram below. Compare both with your old hardware to see what matches best. In either case, for a stamp option choose 2630.

Thank you, I'll measure it. What is a stamp option?

The stamp option basically indicates the balance's strength, or more specifically, the weight range it is calibrated to support. Channel balances are calibrated to support very precise weight ranges. You don't want to use a balance for a window sash that weighs outside that balance's intended range, or else quite simply it will not work properly. So for instance, your balance's old stamp of 26 3 is the same as our stamp option of 2630, which is meant to support a window sash in the weight range of 13 through 19 pounds. I hope that makes sense. Let me know if you have any other questions.
