Inquiry on Window Channel Balances

Question

Looking to replace a pair of channel balances. The action to open or close the window is still too heavy after taking the window apart and thoroughly cleaning and lubricating the surfaces. One of the channel balances rope-pulley squeaks. The markings read 13 5. The weight of the window is 12.2 lb.

Thanks for writing in! You'll need either the S351-14 or the S390-14 to replace your balances. To confirm the correct series, you'll need to measure the depth of the shoe.

The issue with the window could very likely be due to the balances just needing to be replaced. Our 1350 stamp option will support a sash weighing 12 to 15lbs, so it is likely your existing stamp is correct. It is a different rating from the ones used on our balances, so I cannot be 100% sure.

I also suggest double checking the top sash guides on the top left and right handed corners of the sash. If these are damaged, that could also be contributing to the issue. I've included a few video tutorials below with instructions on how to remove and replace them.
