Inside door handle latch

Question

1 3/4 hole distance. The door handle has a curve to allow it to close and not hit the striker plate. Problem is that all the door handles are square and blocky and this hit the striker plate before closing. The door is about sixty years old so replacing door is not an option. Thanks.
