First off I want to say THANK YOU for having this forum with questions and answers. I am amazed and blown away with your attention to customers with problems with windows. Absolutely amazed!
I have channel balances (many) that have gone to the top of the window. I took them out and there are no broken strings. The guides are pitted at the place that would hold the channel balance. Should I replace the channel balances as well when I replace the guides? Would the channel balances not being in sync be the reason that they chipped away through the guides?
Is it my channel balance or the guide

Hello,
I missed the video on "How to Repair a Jammed Window". Now that I've viewed it, I think the guide is the problem. I'm going to order those parts and see it that does it. Thank you so much!

Hello there. Thanks for the kind words! We appreciate it, and it's nice to hear we're making a difference. As you surmised, usually when the Top Sash Guides break down and the balances shoot past them, the balances are not to blame and can still be used. Age, wear, and sun exposure is typically the culprit for Top Sash Guides breaking down, and replacing them should do the trick. As you also correctly guessed, your old guide looks like our 18-171. Let us know how you make out, or if you have any other questions.
