JN Caldwell 32-3 Replacement
Thanks for writing in, and thanks for the detailed photos. This looks like either an S380-33 or S385-33 Channel Balance. The difference between these two balances is the 'depth' of the bottom nylon shoe, or the 'heel-to-toe' measurement. See the diagram below for reference. Your photos seem to show that your balance's shoe depth is greater than 1"--in which case you'd need the Series 385. But, photos of measuring tape sometimes are deceiving, so I'd double and triple-check to be safe.
In either case, for a stamp option, choose 3230. Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks for your quick reply. Shoe depth is definitely greater than 1 inch - so I think I'm good to go there.
I think the sash may weigh less than 18 lbs. It appears the 3230 is the most commonly recommended by your team - is it OK to use 3230 if sash weighs slightly less?
Thx again.
No, you don't want to use a stamp that's too strong for your sash weight. If your spring is too strong, that would make the window too hard to close. In a worst case scenario the window may even open up on its own after you walk away.
If you have doubts that the 3230 option is accurate, then you should weigh your sash. These are very precise springs so you want to make sure it's as close to exact as possible.
FYI, I did go to the trouble of weighing the sash. The weight was in the strike zone for the 3230. Your recommendation is right on the mark. Thx.
Awesome, glad to hear it! Please let me know if you had any other follow up questions, we're always here to help.
Successfully replaced springs n 6 windows. Thanks! Got a couple more with 26-4 stamp and a 1 and 3/32 shoe. Total length is 28". What is the recommended replacement? Photos attached
Great! I'm glad the last order worked.
For this balance, assuming that the nylon fittings are the same then you would go with the Series 385. A stamp of 26-4 indicates a metal channel length of 27" that uses a 2640 stamp option.
