Is the keeper made to sit on the surface of the door frame, or is it meant to fit into a groove or hole in the frame?

Concerning this type of surface mounted patio lock, the keeper is usually installed on the surface of the door frame. In some cases, depending on the patio door, the keeper is installed on the wood trim surrounding the patio door frame. If you'd like, you can send us some photos of your existing handle and a photo of where you want to install the 82-261C handle set on the door frame and we can try to figure out what yuo need.
