Legacy 82-086 and 82-087

A home owner from Cherry Hill Nj says:
Why is the Legacy 82-087 so much more expensive than the 82-086. We purchased the 82-086 less than a year ago and it has stopped working. Wondering if the 82-087 could last longer or could there be an issue with the steel keeper or the mortise lock?

Bob from SWISCO responded:

The 82-087 is the same as the 82-086, it just comes in more specialized finishes, such as brass or satin nickel. Otherwise though it works exactly the same as the 82-086. It definitely is unusual your new handle set failed so quickly. If you remove the handle set and try manually throwing the mortise lock with a slotted screwdriver. If the lock doesn't budge, then you do need a new mortise lock. Show me a picture of your old lock and I'll see what we have.
