Legacy keyholes don't line up

Landlord from Washington State
I bought the Legacy 82-086 for my rental unit. I cut the inside lever and the outside lock lever to fit the door thickness, but the holes don't line up.
I wanted to knock out the second hole in the handle but a rep at the help desk said that won't work with my lock.

And I can't return the handle because I cut it.

Then he told me I should buy the 82-030 and drill out a hole in the key bump on the outside handle. He says I can steal the key cylinder from the Legacy handle that I bought, and install it in the 82-030 that I should buy now.

Will that work?

Hello! I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your hardware. If I'm understanding correctly, you're telling me that the key cylinder in the 82-086 does not line up with the mortise lock in your door. Is that correct?

If so then the suggestion our representative told you is absolutely your best option. The 82-030 has three holes that can take a key cylinder: top, middle, and bottom. This is in contrast to the 82-086 which only has a key cylinder in the bottom position and cannot be altered in any way. Fortunately, that key cylinder can work in either handle set interchangeably, so you can just pop it out of the 82-086 and pop it onto the 82-030 without issue. You just have to make that hole.
