Legacy locking door handle

I am replacing a patio door handle that does not lock with the Legacy, which I already bought. I did not buy the part that inserts in the door because I already had one. When I went to slide the tail ends in, there was only room for one. Do I need another part to replace the mortise (is the right woed for that piece) ? Thank you.

Re: Customer Service query D200226; Here are the attachments of the current door handle. Everything fit with the replacement I bought, except that both stems would not go into the center part. Only one seemed to fit. I did not break them back yet. Thank you.

Hello,

as long as the mounting holes line up with the door, it sounds like you just need to cut down the spindle that comes with the key lock, which comes in a longer length to accommodate a wide range of door thicknesses.
