Lock 1881820

The bronze part will not go in properly unless the bolts are in retracted position. How do I retract the bolts? I've put the screw in to test, but the issue remains. The thumb turn will not engage the bolts.

Note that with the old lock, it *will* engage if the bolts are already retracted. This allows the tongue on the key cylinder to lock in.

Hello there! Sorry to hear you're having trouble. I'm not sure what the issue may be here but the first thing I would try doing is installing the key cylinder into the mortise latch and secure the cylinder with the set screw to keep it in place. Then, with the cylinder installed, try turning the thumb turn while pushing in the spring loaded center latch. That might help free up the lock so it will work properly.

I've done as you asked without success. This includes using the pass-through handle as well. I have to figure out another way of getting the bolts back. What do you suggest?

Thank you for your patience during this busy Summer.

I'm really not sure what the issue may be. Can you confirm that this is happening on both sides of the mortise, or just one? Has this only started happening recently, or was this an immediate issue when you bought the lock?
