Trying to find replacement for this part. No real markings other than "hook up" on front. Can't get the mechanism out...was told by locksmith that it must be removed by removing whole door. Tried Home Depot, lowe's and ace hardware but none of their mortise locks work. It looks like the length of the lock is about 4" long by 1/2" wide.

In my experience, you should not have to take the door apart to replace a mortise lock. Take a look at our 82-218, which appears to be a match. Be sure to also see our video on how to replace it. This should help you.

The reason the cartridge won't come out is that it is broken and spread out. The bottom looks worst. I can see that one of the pins is out of position and may not allow the parts to close back up. I would first try pulling out the top edge and see if it will squeeze back together enough to force the bottom half out. If it is too tight, you may be able to pull off the lead edge and slide the cartridge out one of the ends.
