Longer coil balance?

I have been using your coil spring balances in old wood doublehung windows as a replacement for the weight and pulley system. It is a system of my own design that works very well. Recently though I had a job to restore very large windows in a church. The sashes weighed 32 pounds. I used 4- 8 lb coils 2 on each side. They work great except that the sash is 60 inches tall but the spring travel is only about 33 inches so I can't open the sash as far as I'd like. Are there longer coil springs avaialble? The springs you have are rated by weight but no mention of lentgth.

Your method of converting coil springs for wood windows is great. Unfortunately, that is the maximum length you can have with coil springs. Now, if you could mount the coil springs in the middle of the window jamb and attach it to the bottom of the sash, that you give you a little more. Another way is to use our Series 500 balances with the 17-012 bracket. These were used in the 40's on wood windows. The only caveat is that you would have to rout out a channel in the sash for the balance tube.
