Are these directional? Meaning do I purchase left hand and right hand, or are they Universal?

Yes these operators are handed. To choose the correct ones between the 39-031 and the 39-032 opposite handed version, you will need to remove the cover to compare which side the gear of the operator is on. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
