Is the slot where the locking handle goes into this to move the latch reversible? Meaning operate from opposite side.
If not, which mechanism is like this with the slot part on opposite side?

Yes, you can use the 82-218 for a door that faces either left or right. The slot just goes all the way through, which you can see more clearly in this picture.
