Making a mortise lock fit

Home Owner from USA
I ordered and received Mortise lock, square face, 3-11/16" part no. 82-223. I had to lightly file the face that fits through the hole in the edge of the patio door to make it fit properly. Having then installed it I realized that the slot in the lockset was about 45 degrees off from being a direct replacement. I have not found any way to make it work correctly. Did I miss something? The lockset goes in a Rivco, Village Patio door. The old lockset is flat face. The spring inside it broke.

Thanks for posting, Dennis. Can I see a few pictures of your original mortise lock side-by-side with our 82-223? Could I also see a few pictures of the handle set used with it? Thanks!

Thank you for the additional images. I think you might need our 82-218, instead.
