Many windows, maybe many different parts, but let's start here
Really appreciate your help.
Hello! I think we can help with this project, yes. Looking at this photo it appears that you have a tilt window. Can you verify?
If so, then I'm highly confident we have parts that you can use to repair this window. The main two options for the balance would be either the 3/8" diameter Series 900 or 9/16" diameter Series 600. These are the only sizes used on tilt windows, so your next step should be to measure the diameter of the outer tube to determine the better match. This tube will be either metal or plastic and will be covering the spring; don't measure the spring itself.
It also looks like you need a pivot shoe, which connects the balance to the sash and allows for the tilt action. I'm afraid it's too obscured for me to ID, though, and there are many, many possible matches. If possible I would like to see a photo of your shoe out of the window and shown without obstruction. An undamaged version would be best. I will also need to know its width and thickness.
Finally, please disregard the above advice if your windows are non-tilt. Just let me know if that's the case and we can switch tracks.
Is this shoe broken? Is that why the spring detached from it?
Are we well advised to just replace both springs on any window that doesn't stay up?
The shoe in this new photo doesn't appear broken to me, but much of it is obscured so I can't really say for sure. Your best bet is to remove the, and carefully examine for any serious damage. It would be obvious once you have it out.
If any of your shoes are broken, then please send me a photo of it removed from the track and without obstruction. Please also write down its width and thickness for me to review. I can then check our inventory for a match.
You should always replace both balances at the same time. You never want to mix old and new springs together.
Thanks! That pivot shoe appears to match our 15-188. Review its specifications to verify. As for the spiral balance, as I mentioned before it's going to be a choice between the Series 900 or Series 600. You have to measure the diameter of the white tube to confirm the better option.
