Milgard Balancer

Home Owner from Temecula, Ca
I haven't removed the window. I would like to have the parts first. The balancer rod says 32 5 at the bottom. It has broken the spring (I assume) and is sticking out the top of the window side. The window does not stay open. Milgard gave me a replacement part number of B1033BT but will not assist me since I'm out of warranty.

Please advise what type of balancer I need and I do see you need to replace both. Thanks.

Thanks for writing in. We can replace this balance for you, but we need to see it out of the window. Pictures of both nylon fittings at either end of the balance are needed. If you could confirm the length of the metal channel, not including those nylon fittings, that too would be useful.

However, keep in mind from the damage you're describing that your top sash guides may be damaged. The top sash guides are plastic parts in the corners of the window sash meant to hold the channel balance in place. When these wear down and break, the balances shoot past the sash to the top of the window frame. This sounds possibly like what you're describing. You may in fact only need to replace the top sash guides then. We can help you do this also, but we'll need 'mugshot pictures' of an undamaged version of the top sash guide from the front and side (and out of the window). Many thanks.

Because of the hot weather now I didn't want to remove it yet. The part number B1033BT was supplied to me by Milgard. They had replaced the balancer on the other window and said this was the part number I needed. Does that part number not help?

I'm afraid not. We have no record of that number or what it may be. That may be something Milgard uses, but most companies use their own coding systems. The only reliable way to identify a balance is by going off of the physical details, specifically the nylon fittings.
