Thanks for reaching out to us. If the 18-188 didn't work, then my suggestion would be to try our 18-009 instead. I've personally had a lot of success with this part while repairing old Milgard windows.
You'll note right away that our 18-009 has a top lip that sticks out from the base, but this can be trimmed down with a utility knife. That will give it enough clearance to install in the frame. Just make sure to wear safety gloves if you try this.
