Milgard sliding door handle

Quick Learner from Oregon
I am looking to install a lock for our Milgard sliding door. Enclosed please find pictures of the door handle assembly that came with the door. The door was installed in 2008.

It appears that the following assembly is a good match, 82-081.

Please advise exactly what parts I would need to purchase to complete my task.

Questions:
Could it be that I would only have to replace the outside handle with the one with the lock?
Do I have to buy some other part?
Anything else I should know?

No, you're on the right track. To get a lock on your door, replace the entire handle set. You'll want to use the 82-081 as long as it's good to fit on your door. Compare dimensions to check that, and you're good to go.

The screw distances are exact. The thickness of the door looked like 1 3/8" but maybe it is 1 7/16". Are Milgard doors standard industry widths meaning that my door is considered 1 3/8" and 82-081 will work?

I see what you mean, though between you and me there isn't anything in this industry that seems to fit any standard system. Either way, if your door is 1-7/16" thick, then the 82-081 may still work. I think the key tail will have enough length to it. In a worst-case scenario you'd just have to re-use your old screws, so definitely hold onto them just in case.

Thank you!

Do I have to buy some other part besides the handle? Lock? Keys? Striker?
Please tell me everything I need.
Never got my original questions answered at the beginning of this thread. See the pictures.
Thank you.

The 82-081 comes with keys already. It looks like your mortise lock and keeper are in good condition. As long as they're working, there's no need to replace them.

When it comes to replacing hardware for doors like this, there isn't really a checklist of things you need. Repairs are done on a part-by-part basis. If it's broken, replace it. If it's not broken, you're fine. If there is a special circumstance where a new replacement part requires some other product to work, we'll mention it. I don't really see anything in your pictures that indicates that something like that is necessary, though.
