Milgard DH-C40 window balancers

Handy Person from Thousand Oaks, Ca
Hi there. I'm looking for 5 window balancers for three Milgard DH-C40 windows Series 2200-C. I think that's what they are called anyway (based on parts from your website). They fit on the left and right sides of the the window that goes up and down vertically. I have a rusty old one I found on the ground if my clients home if you want a picture. Thanks. Rick

Hi there, Rick. A picture or two would be a great help. We can take a look at what has been used and we can compare it to the selection of balances we offer and see what can be used in its place. Please also include the metal length measurement of the balance.

Here are a couple of pictures of the balancer I found and need to repair the above windows. It is 25" from tip to tip.

Thanks

Hello,

It looks like you have either our S351, 15-002, or S390, 15-001, channel balance. Take a look at the image below to determine which balance you'll need. You'll also need to know the weight of your sash in order to choose the correct option if the stamp on your balance is no longer visible. Thank you!

Hi there. It looks like the correct version is the 15-001, though the measurement of the piece on the rusty one I have is 1-3/32. Probably not too meaningful.

Whatever stamps might have existed on the rail I have have rusted away so I don't have a weight to go on. Is there a big difference?

No problem, you should be okay to go with our S390 channel balance. Now you'll just need to confirm the length of the metal channel on your balance and weigh your bottom sash to choose the correct spring strength option.

Sorry to seem dense. The bottom sash is heavy but I don't have an accurate scale. What weight possibilities exist for these windows? Perhaps an educated guess might work.

It would depend on the length of the metal channel. You gave us the length tip-to-tip, but the length of channel balances are determined by the metal channel alone.

I recommend visiting the Series 390 page that Casey linked you to in her last response and choose the appropriate length. Make sure to only measure the metal channel. Once you have, you'll be taken to a store page for that length where you will see a chart that tells you exactly how much weight each stamp option can support.

We highly recommend getting the exact weight of the sash. In my experience, estimations are rarely accurate. There are too many variables that can affect the weight of a sash and it's better to be as exact as possible to avoid any complications.

In the continuing saga of the window balancers, the metal part is 24 inches long and the window sash weighs 22 lbs. I hope that's enough information to figure this out the rest of the way.

I need five of them. How much are they and how long would it take me to receive them once ordered.

Thanks,

Rick W.

Sure, in that case I'd recommend our S390-24 with a 2340 option. That option indicates that these balances can hold a sash weighing 18 through 23 pounds. All pricing can be found on each balance page's store page. Shipping will depend on what delivery option you select during checkout, since we have a bunch of different options.
