Milgard window repair

Contractor from San Leandro

Greetings,

We are attempting to repair Milgard single hung windows by replacing the counter balancers. Please see photo. Can you determine which part number we need or is the part number printed on the counter balancer itself? The windows are vinyl and are approx. 36" x 60".

Our plan is to try to service one window. If successful, we will proceed to repair 10 more.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi Jonathan, thank you for posting,

To further review, we will need to see the balance removed from the window where we can see clear images of the top and bottom nylon attachments. We will also need to see the inside of the metal channel where we can view the connection point between the spring and pulley system.

From there we can narrow down the series needed for your window. Thank you!

I think there are only two variations of the counter balancer. Can you confirm that?

I am tempted to purchase both variations and just try them to see which is correct, then perform the repair if possible.

If the top attachment is winged like the bottom, it is possible you could have the Series 380 or Series 385. The difference between these two balances is the depth of the shoe. If the balance top is not winged, you could have the Series 350 balance.

But the reason I need to see the inside connection between the spring and pulley system, is that the connection style can determine a different series that uses a special calibration to support the sash. Unfortuantely this detail cannot be identified while the balance is still installed. If the wrong balance is used, it can lead to damage or breakage overtime.
