Channel Balance ID

A home owner from Oregon says:
I have two windows with balancers that need to be replaced. Both balancers are 33 inches long and I included serial numbers in the photos. The balancers I removed look similar other than the spring is larger in the balancer from the larger window.

Thanks for posting. I'm confident we can replace this balance, but we need a little more information to help. Can you show us the nylon fittings on either end of the metal channel?

This stamp code designates the strength of the spring inside the balance. For the balance stamped '32 5' you can use a stamp option of 3250, but other balance's stamp is a little unusual due to the 'DS' code, which designates an especially strong spring. That second pair of numbers of '42', however, likely indicates you have a 42 lb sash, in which case you could use the 3275 Stamp Option. You may wish to weigh your window sash to confirm this however.

A home owner from Oregon says:
The balance with 42 is from a much larger heavier window. I didn't weigh it but i would guess it's 42 lbs from lifting it out. The spring inside is definitely stronger than the 32 balance. I'll include pics of the nylon fittings from both balances. The photo with one balance is from the 32 stamp. Thanks

Are the fittings are essentially the same on both balances? Or does the bottom one in your photos lack 'wings' that the top balance has on both nylon fittings? The wings are those tabs on either side of the nylon fittings.

For the balances that have fittings with wings, see either our S380-33 or S385-33. The only difference between these two balances is the depth of the bottom nylon shoe, or the heel-to-toe measurement, so compare both with your old hardware to see what matches best.

For any balance that lacks wings on its fittings, see the S351-33 or S390-33. Again, the only difference between these two balances is the shoe depth. Compare to see which you would need.

For the balances stamped 3250, you may use that stamp option. For the 32DS 42 balance, this suggests the sash weighs 42 lbs, so in that case a 3275 stamp option would work as a replacement.

A home owner from Oregon says:
Thanks for your help, the fittings both had wings and were 1". Placed the order today for S80-33 balances.
