Missing all hardwear

A handy person from Reno Nevada says:
Hi, we bought this house and found a window with no balances. I'm hoping you folks can help me figure out what we need and then fix us up w parts.
The manufacturer is Phillips and there's a date of 1995 inside the windows.
The overall inside window dia. is 58.5 hi and 47' wide.
The sash dia is 29.5 hi and 45 3/4 wide.
the sash weighs 23lbs.
the channel in the window frame is 1 1/8 wide and 7/8" deep
The sash channel is 5/8 wide and 5/8 deep.
the distance from the clip slot to the upper metal clip is approx 19" depending on where on the clip you measure to.
If there is anything more I can tell you great. I'm happy to have your help w this mystery.
Thanks, Dana

Hi, Dana.

I'm afraid we can't help without the original balances to use as a reference. It's just not possible to ID a match without that. Is there another window in the house that's identical, or at least the same brand? If so, we can use that as a reference.

A handy person from Reno Nevada says:
Hi Emily,
Dang! Well, this is the only window of its size in the house. There are some narrower windows. I pulled one of them out (23" x 59" at 11lbs). Its balance fits in the larger window frame if that helps ID the missing ones.

The number on the sm window balance is 25 2 CO Caldwell

Here's some pictures. Gosh I hope this helps.

Thanks, Dana

Thanks for the additional pictures, Dana! This is a huge help. If this window is the same brand as the one with the missing balances, odds are they use the same configuration as what you show in these new batch of pictures. Just keep in mind, our recommendation is an educated guess.

With that said, your balance looks like a match for our Series 380 or Series 385, depending on the depth of the bottom fitting. The Series 380 has a 1" deep shoe, while the Series 385 has a 1-3/32" deep shoe. You'll need to measure as shown in the diagram below to determine the best match. We'd also like you to confirm the visible glass height and obtain the precise sash weight for the window with the missing balances. That will help us calculate the length and strength option for your replacements.

Boy I think we're onto something :-) Thanks Emily. The visible glass height is 26 1/4 on the sash and 27 1/4 on the fixed panel.

The shoe is 1 3/32" so that indicates it's the 15-004. Then the length is 26". Scroll down and I see the weight chart. The sash is 23lbs so the part # 2540 comes in at 19-25lbs. unless the glass height makes a difference.

I have two smaller windows (same maker and dates installed) The balance pictured above with the number 25 2 CO Caldwell. Since I'm ordering balances for the big window I figured I'd replace the smaller ones as well. 26" long, with a sash weight of 11lbs takes me to pt # 2520.

If this sounds correct (which I know we're shooting from the hip w the larger window and I'll take that chance. Does the number of the smaller balance window translate?

Thanks again, Dana

You know your stuff, Dana! I consulted with one of our senior experts and we agree that you'd need a 26" long balance, like the S385-26 with the 2540 strength option. You're also correct regarding the 25 2 stamped balance, you would want the S385-26 with the 2520 option. If you also needed the top sash guide in your first batch of pictures, see our 18-008 which looks like a great match.

Enjoy, Dana
