Mortise lock opening on door is too small.

Question

I have a Sd-r50-1816x2426(72x96)  This patio door was already installed when we purchased a home. It never had a mortise lock. I've purchased two different locks to try and install them. The opening on the door is only 3 1/4 inches. None of the locks will fit inside. Do you have a spacing template or instructions of how big I should cut the hole and a model number for a mortise lock that will fit?
