Need New Certainteed Bug Gasket

Home Owner from Chicopee, MA
Hello SWISCO,

I'm being told by Certainteed/MI that my window screen seal (bug gasket) material is no longer available. Would SWISCO have something comparable to whats shown in the picture below? I need to replace all of my screen seals due to shrinkage, bugs are having a field day between my window screen and window glass. Any information would be helpful.

Thank you,
TJ

Hey, TJ. Could you give me the size of the "T" strip? Thank you!

Tom,

It seems to be about a half inch across (but not sure if it has shrunk over the years). As for the length can't that be cut to size?

Thanks,
TJ

Yes, the length can be cut to size. Can you confirm the width of the "T," though? 1/2" is very large.

The reason I ask is that it looks similar to either our 58-119 or 58-135. However, the width of their "T" strips are 3/16", each. Check out the dimensions we show for them and let me know what you think.

Tom,

The "T" itself is 3/16" the round tube is 1/2" to 9/16"

Thanks,

In that case, I think our 58-135 might be a closer match. It's a little small, but take a look and see if it could work in your window.

Tom,

Looks like that one is a little on the smaller side. No way of getting the next size up huh? I'd have to test this smaller size to see if it will keep a tight seal.

Thanks,

FYI - 58-135 (3/8" diameter bulb) is NOT deep enough to make a seal on Certainteed windows with the ~1/2" deep bulb. Got my order the other day and tried it out, and it leaves a little gap.

I'm still going to use it - either by putting something else on the edge of the screens to make a full seal, or splice it in on the ends (where the opening is smaller anyway and the previous bug gasket seal was squished - I'll just put in a couple inches to make up for the shrinkage and join it with a little silicone) - as I haven't had any luck finding a larger size bulb.
