Hi, I have this spiral balance that measures 30" long and has a blue tip. Why type of replacement balance should I order?

Thanks for posting! It looks like you have a spiral balance for a non-tilt window. Is that correct? If so, can you also give me the diameter of the spiral? It looks very skinny, so just by eye-balling it I think it could be 3/8", but I would like you to confirm just to make sure.

Also, when measuring the length, are you measuring the tube only? Please confirm that only the tube is 30" long.

Yes, the tube is 30" long and the spiral is 3/8"

Thank you! Please take a look at our S400-30 spiral balance. Does that look about right?

Now, as you can see, the S400-30 does not have a Blue Tip option. You will have to weigh your sash and match up its weight to the capacities for the tips we do have available: Red and Green.

The Red Tip can carry a sash weight range of approximately 10 through 22 pounds, while the Green Tip can carry approximately 14 through 26 pounds. Does your sash's weight fall within either of these ranges? Let me know!

Please keep in mind that the weight range information is based on 2 balances per sash. Balances are designed assuming friction in the jamb weather-strip will carry a portion of the sash weight. Suggested sash weights are approximate.

Will using the sash with the higher weight capacity inhibit the functionality of the window at all? I.e. will it be harder to open or close?

If your sash weight is below the threshold for the Green Tip, then yes, the sash will be harder to open and close. However as long as it's within the range of 14 though 26 pounds the window should operate fine.
