Need replacement 1/2" Wide Channel Balance

Handy Person from Boise, ID
I have a single pane vertical sliding window with broken balance. The window is about 22 lbs (weighed, not estimated), and 28" tall. The channel itself (the metal part) is 26" long. The window was made by Philips, as noted on the lock. From your catalog, I see that these could be either series 350, 351, 380 or 385. I hope the pictures I've taken help. If not, I can send the parts.

Please advise on the proper parts to try to order.

Thank You. Lynn Catlin

Hey, thanks for posting. I've narrowed this down to two possible channel balance Series: either our Series 380 or our Series 385 balances.

Now, as you can see, there is only one difference between these two Series, and that is their bottom shoe. The Series 380 uses the 15-005 while the Series 385 uses the 15-004. I can't quite tell what you have based on your pictures, though. Please carefully compare their dimensions to your own hardware and see which is a better match.

That's good information. Measuring with a pair of crude calipers I'm getting that's it's closer to 1-3/32". So, it looks like I'll need the 15-004.

I just noticed the stamp on it. It looks like it says 25 5 Caldwell. Does this help as well?

Great. If you have the 15-004 shoe, then our Series 385 should be the first thing you consider. See if you think it will work for you.

The stamp only hints as to what the strength of the spring may be, it is not an identification number. Usually 25 5 corresponds to our 2550 option, but you should weigh your sash to make sure it is correct.

I ordered these parts and have replaced them in the window, after having verified the weight of the window- and they work perfectly. Your assistance and the very helpful video on how to replace them made this chore quite easy! My parents are thrilled, as they originally thought they were going to have to replace the window.

Thank you very much for all your help... You've earned a new lifelong customer. I'll keep your site handy and look for parts and assistance here first from now on!
