Need either the mortise lock or new handle that can fit into patio door.

Thanks for posting. See the 82-086 Handle Set. For the mortise lock I can't be 100% certain, but I suspect it was the 82-218. Take a look and see if you agree.

I purchased the recommended mortise lock and it does not fit into opening. It's just slightly too big.

Sorry to hear of your trouble with the 82-218, however I suspect it is still the correct choice. This mortise lock is meant to be a snug fit, which can make installing it trickly. It has to be inserted at an angle. See the video below and let me know if this helps.
