Need replacement handle with external lock and key for this sliding door

Question

I believe this door is called the Series Summit 8670 Sliding Patio door. I had a locksmith attempt to install an external keyed lock onto the handle but he tried and said it wasn't do-able - that it looked like a standard patio door but is not and it just didn't line up with the part I ordered from Swisco - the 82-315 Key Lock And Housing. Can you tell me if there is an entirely new handle with it's own external key lock and housing or one that will work with 82-315? And will fit with this particular door? I'm at a loss. Thank you

Huh, I'm not sure what makes this door so special. I can tell you right off the bat that our 82-315 is fully compatible with the internal mortise lock in your second picture. I wonder if the problem is just the outside handle?

Maybe consider our 82-044. This is an outside handle with a hole spacing of 3-15/16", center-to-center. It's also designed specifically to be used with the 82-315. If the hole spacing is the same as yours, I honestly don't see any reason why it can't work.
