Hello,
This is a new sliding glass door that was purchased new about 1 month ago.
I purchased a lock cylinder to install on the outside handle. The existing handle had a knock-out for installing the lock cylinder. After punching the knock-out out of the casting it was fount that the hole is about a half inch out of alinement with the slot in the mortice lock. In another words the outside handle is not the proper handle for this lock. We contacted the company we purchased the door from and they said that a lock cylinder could not be used and that the glass door would need to be replaced. Can you help out with this problem.

Wow, they told you to replace the whole door? That's ludicrous! There are a lot of steps in between where you're at now and replacing the whole door that we can try out first. Anything to make a buck, I guess. The first and least elegant solution would be to mount your outside handle lower on the door by drilling new screw holes, enough to where the key lock is aligned with the mortise. This will probably leave one of the old screw holes exposed, though, and that's not ideal. The next idea would be to replace the outside handle entirely with our 82-044 and then install our 82-315 key lock on top of that. This combination of parts is nice because the 82-044 has three potential locations for a key lock: top, middle, and bottom. You can mount the 82-315 wherever it needs to go in order to get the key lock to work. We also have a video that shows how these work together. Let me know if you have any other questions. |
