Need to replace non-tilt channel balance - the line on one has broken

Home Owner from WA

From webpage - I think I may need a 37" series 378 channel balance with option 3640. But, I am not sure that is the right one. Windows are 30 years old, then damaged channel has marks 26.4 KN CALDWELL snf id 1/2 wide (see photo). the one of other side of window has mark 26.3 CALDWELL LM. They appear the same except marking.

I have 4 windows like these in the house. I want to install at least 2 new in the one window, but need to ensure the right type. Cell is best way to reach me.  Thanks

Hey there!

Thanks for reaching out to us. We're happy to look into this. It's weird that both balances in the same window are stamped differently. We would like to see an image of the inside of both of the balance’s metal channels, where the innerspring connects to the pulley mechanism; this connection is located in the middle of the channel. We will also need you to weigh the window sash to confirm the appropriate stamp option for the replacement balances.

You said you think you may need the 37" length but the stamps on the old balances indicate the metal channel should be 27". Can you go into detail as to why you think you need this length or was that a typo?

Oops, the balance is 27 inch - not 37. The upper portion of window (window sash?). My electronic food scale indicates it is 12 - 13 lbs.
I checked the adjacent window (same design) and both balances in that window are stamped 26-3 CALDWELL. Photos of undamaged 26-3 & the damaged 26-4. Thanks for your help. Don C

Thank you, Don! If the identical window has both balances with the 26-3 stamp, that's what you may need. A pair of balances with this stamp is calibrated to support a sash weighing 13 to 19 pounds.

However, I'm not convinced you have the Series 378. The bottom shoe on this balance is 7/8" deep but yours doesn't look that small. The S380-27 with a 1" deep shoe or the S385-27 with a 1-3/32" deep shoe look like better matches. You'll want to measure the bottom shoe as shown below to confirm. You can also select the 2630 stamp option for your replacement balances.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you for your help. I attached a photo - and the bottom shoe depth does appear to exceed 1 inch. Tried to take a good photo - think it is likely the 1 3/32nd S385.  Can you confirm, and the type I need to order? Thanks! Don

Unforutnately, we can't confirm exact dimensions from photos, but if your shoe measures more than 1" deep, the S385-27 (2630) would be the correct replacement.
