Hello! This is a very old style balance. For projects like this, I like to opt for the Series 500 spiral balance and 17-012 bracket (sold separately). The Series 500 has a 9/16" diameter outer tube and in my opinion is more than robust enough to handle these older wood sashes. Look it over and let me know what you think!
