New Spiral Balances and pivot shoes - My first window repairs with your products

Home Owner from Pittsburgh, PA

Hi

I just received the four 30" series 600 balances from Swisco. The outside of each tube had a thin layer of "grease" coating the surface. Is it supposed to stay there or can I remove this "grease film" before I install them?

Do the spiral balances come "charged with tension" from Swisco?

There are three slots in the metal plate of each pivot shoe. Does it matter which slot I use to attach the rod to the shoe?

Do both rods for the window need to be in the same slot on each pivot shoe?

Thank you for your time

Bob

Hi, Bob. Excess grease on the outer tube itself can be wiped off.

As for the spirals, they need to be wound and hooked into the shoe. Because of that, they must be charged during installation.

The position of the spiral inside the 3 slots is not very important. The safest bet is to either copy the original configuration, or (if you don't know the original configuration) put the spirals on both sides into the center slot. That's never failed for me.
