New thread: Keyed lock need for Milgard sliding glass door

Home Owner from USA
Hi,
Can you help me determine what parts I need to convert our existing sliding glass door handle to keyed-handle? See attached pics. This is a Milgard sliding glass door that is ~18yrs old.

Or do I need to completely replace the existing handle? If this is the case, can you recommend a good handle with keyed-lock that I could use for this door.

Thank you.

This type of handle can use our 82-310 as a key lock, but it's not easy adapting the outside pull to use it. You would need to drill out a hole to accommodate it. You may also want to see our 82-081 complete keyed handle set. This comes with a key lock already installed in the outside pull.

This handle does not have a punch-out for the cylinder.
I found it easier to drill it from the inside out.
It is not easy to make a clean hole, but it can work.
I would give it a shot, but if it doesn't work, you may be stuck without an outside pull until you get the new one .

I also have a milgard handle and I would like to convert it into a keyed lock. There's no punchout on the inside of the milgard handle.

If I wanted to install part 82-310, what's your best advice for how to cleanly drill through the exterior handle to create a chamber hole for the key lock?

Longtime swisco customer, thanks for the helpful advice!

Hey, Andrew. Drilling into the outer handle of the 82-080 is difficult, take it from me. With no punch-out to speak of you really just need to have a really steady hand. If you're even a little bit off, you may as well throw the handle out. Assuming you're on the mark, then after the hole is drilled out approximately to size you can use a rat tail file to finish the job.

I personally think it's easier to buy a new 82-081 handle set, which comes with a key lock. It's up to you, though.
